This winter and spring I was taught by two terrific instructors at Emily Carr University.
Here are two of the still life studies I completed under James Lindfield's eagle eye in "An Introduction to Oil Painting" As usual you can click on the painting to see a larger image and more information.
Lisa Birke kept me working at an intense pace in acrylics completing short acrylic studies in "Landscapes and Natural Elements." Both of the classes got me going outside to paint "en plein air." Here is a small painting I completed in the woods near my home. I have been painting sitting on the ground where friendly dogs can be a real hazard.

Two stumps was painted on a panel with paints that I received from supplies left by Tom Hopkins at his wife's west coast retreat. Tom's passing resulted in many tributes about his generosity to student artists. You can view some of his work at this link www.metiviergallery.com/artist_collection.php?artist=hopkins
I continued to push my boundaries and experiment with oils under the instruction of Liz Wiltzen at the Gibsons School of the Arts 5 day course in July. Another stellar instructor; see her work at www.mountainartist.com! Here she is demonstrating under the gazebo at the end of Gibsons Pier.
After watching Liz I completed this little study from the gazebo in an hour working smaller than ever before on a panel 4.5 x 6" with bigger than usual brushes .
Robert Genn dropped in for a day during Wiltzen's class. Here he is painting on unperturbed in spite of the thunder shower and excited helpers.
Since the weather does not always cooperate here are a few more small landscape studies painted indoors from my photographs.

The Bay in this painting is an early spring view from the cabin where Tom Hopkins lived on his west coast trips.
